If you enjoy nature but don’t like throngs of people enjoying it with you, a visit to one of Ohio’s spectacular nature preserves may be an adventure you’ll enjoy. No trails, no handrails, and no bridges means it’s not for everyone, but the extra effort required to explore these unspoiled spaces can be well rewarded – especially for a landscape photographer who loves waterfalls.
There are two large, well known waterfalls in Columbus, Indian Run Falls and Hayden Falls. Also on that side of town is a third relatively unknown large falls – Dublin Road Falls.
For years I’ve been seeing photos of an incredible, hidden waterfall in the Hocking Hills area called Corkscrew Falls. Until recently, it was private property. Now it’s part of the Boch Hollow Nature Preserve and has been officially named Robinson Falls. You can get a free permit to visit the falls from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. After getting my permit, I was eager to finally photograph this unique waterfall myself.
